The deity of Inokami Shrine is Minakatame no Mikoto, the goddess of water. The founding date is unknown, but there is a construction plaque from the second year of the Kanpo era (1742). Since ancient times, the parishioners have performed rain prayers during times of water shortages. Every year, on the first Sunday of July, a lively portable shrine, or mikoshi, is carried out along the riverbank. Until this practice began, it was forbidden for women to participate. Following the mikoshi, there is a ceremony of throwing offered rice cakes, and local stalls are also set up by residents.
